Alameda Midway Shelter 5k

September 16th, 2017: 9:00am Start

Kicking off the Holiday season, this is the only event in the Island challenge that is not raising money for a local charity, The Holiday 5k raises money for the Multiple Myeloma Foundation in honor of Steve's dad that passed in 2013. You can read more about this event at www.active.com

Alameda Holiday Kick-Off 5k and kids run

Dragon Rouge restaurant will be hosting the award pick-up party on December 6th from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Come and enjoy some great food and appetizers and pick up your medal if you ran 3 of these great events! More info to come as we get closer to the event date

We are excited to be partnering with the 4th of July and the December Midway shelter runs to highlight all of the fantastic 5k and family run events we have on the Island


The Island 5k challenge will incorporate each of the 5k runs on the Island, building a community feel and awareness around all of the events, and highlight all of the fantastic beneficiaries. The event dates and beneficiaries are listed below:

Alameda Running Festival 5k

The 4th of July race benefits the Midway Shelter of Alameda and follows the historic Mayors 4th of July parade route. Read more and register at http://www.alamedarace.com/RACE/

‚ÄčAlameda Hospital Foundation 5k and kids run 

Alameda 4th of July Run

Alameda Hospital Foundation with start and end at the Harbor Bay Club in Alameda. Register at www.active.com. Event Benefits the Alameda Hospital Foundation

As part of the two day Alameda Running Festival, the ARF 5k kicks off the weekend, taking place on Saturday and it benefits the Alameda Meals on Wheels and Alameda Education Foundation. Read more at www.runalameda.com 

Participants that complete 3 of the 5 eligible 5k events and will be automatically included in the 5k challenge. If you compete in 3 of the 5 you will be eligible to receive a special challenge finisher medal. In addition, at the conclusion of 2017 the times will be combined together and the top 3 Male and Female participants for each 10 year age group category will also receive a larger, custom branded 2017 Island 5k Challenge medal. Lastly, there will be a "biggest improvement" category where we will take the first 5k and the last 5k run and calculate the difference. the top 3 Male, and top 3 Female participants with the biggest improvement will also receive a special award.
